1. Gigi Hadid
American model, television personality and the mastermind behind the clothing line “Guest In Residence”, Jelena Noura Gigi Hadid, left Twitter on November 7th. While quitting the platform, she wrote, “I deactivated my Twitter account today.” Adding on, she said that the new leadership that fosters hate and bigotry is the main reason why she is disinterested in being a part of the platform.
2. Toni Braxton
American R&B singer Tony Michele Braxton also quit Twitter after Musk’s acquisition. “I am shocked and appalled at some of the free speech I have seen on this platform since its acquisition,” she tweeted. R&B singer Toni Michele Braxton is from the United States. Since this platform’s acquisition, I’ve witnessed some “free speech” that shocks and appals me, Braxton tweeted. She said that she was opting to stay off Twitter because it is no longer a safe site for her, her sons, and other POC. Hate speech disguised as “free speech” is unacceptable, she remarked. On October 28, she made her decision public.
3. Erik Larsen
American comic book publisher, writer, and illustrator Erik J. Larsen has also joined the list of celebs who quit Twitter. “Yeah, I left. I said I would leave if Musk bought Twitter,” he remarked. The move encouraged the most toxic users on the platform turning making the place an unsafe environment. The creeps, racists, and ‘patriots’ are back in full form, he said. The writer also said that he does not regret having made the decision.
4. David Simon
American author, journalist, screenwriter, and producer David Judah Simon also left Twitter. He said that the platform does not deserve any free content, especially when it is already susceptible to orchestrated misinformation and provocative anti-Semitic/racist content. “The technocrat can choke on his new toy,” he said. Simon quit Twitter on the 9th of November. However, his account still seems to be in use, and there have been approximately over ten tweets since then.
5. Shonda Rhimes
American television producer, author, and playwright Shonda Lynn Rhimes left Twitter on 29th October. “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,” she tweeted. Although her account is still active, she has not posted a single tweet since then.
6. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg, an American actor, comedian, author, and television personality, made her decision to stop using Twitter public on November 7. “I am getting off today,” she tweeted. She said that the platform was way too messy, and she was just exhausted by people with a typical mindset, who were once blocked, cropping up once again on the platform.
7. Jack White
John Anthony White, better known by his stage name Jack White, is an American musician best known for being the White Stripes’ lead singer and guitarist. White penned a lengthy message on his Instagram platform. “So you gave trump his Twitter platform back,” he wrote. He compared Musk to Joe Rogan, who gives platforms to liars like Alex jones etc. He praised Musk for his Tesla venture and said that he had supported it to the hilt, but this time he (Musk) had taken things too far. He feels Elon is using power to promote horrible, violent liars who are regressing the nation and the world and endangering democracy, and this is something he detests.
