Norton 360 Review

Norton is extremely renowned in the Mac world and is one of the most sought after software security tools. There are various bundles of the Norton 360 like Norton 360 Plus, Standard, Deluxe, etc. Its best part is the robust functionality coupled with the excellent detection of mac viruses.

Features

The features vary according to the version of Norton that you use. For instance, the functions for Plus Standard and Deluxe are different from those of Advanced and LifeLock Select. Individuals can also opt for discounts separately at a comparatively cheaper price.

The major emphasis of Norton has been on VPN services with protection against identity theft. This is referred to as Dark Web Monitoring. This service continuously monitors your email address, telephone number, and other contact details to ensure that they haven’t fallen into the wrong hands. The standard version includes VPN alongside facilitating ad blocking and permission to change location.

Device Security is another primary feature of the Norton 360. This safeguards your device from malware by providing automatic background and on-demand protection against unwanted, uninvited and potential malware.

Norton also features a Password Manager utility that manages wallet data for auto-fill payments, addresses, notes and favourites. However, using the firewall necessitates some prior knowledge of the tool.

In addition to the aforementioned features, there is also a duplicate and junk file detection feature in the software. This helps clear massive amounts of storage from a mac that has been used a lot.

One downside of Norton 360 is its Cloud Backup feature that offers 50GB backup storage (75GB with Premium). This feature, however, works only on Windows PCs. The reason it does not function on macOS is because mac blocks third-party backup. Hence, this Cloud Backup feature is not suited for Mac users. However if you own a Windows laptop or PC, you can avail this benefit.

Another feature missing from the Norton 360 is its anti ransomware protection. Despite these few disadvantages, opting for the Norton 360 makes sense, given that it offers features like Dark Web Monitoring that helps evade data leaks especially in instances where payments by credit cards is quite common.

Malware Detection

It provides first-class malware detection for both Mac and Windows. It detects 100% of Mac malware, 99% of Windows viruses. Norton 360 efficiently detects potential malware ranging from browser search engine hack scripts to actual trojans.

There is an array of scan options available. These are – automatic scans which function when you simultaneously work on the system, scheduled scans, and user-initiated quick scans. Along with this, Full Scan is also available which scans your entire Mac and optimally external volumes as well. The File Scan offers a more precise targeting and checks specific files and folders on demand.

To install the software on your MAc, you will have to allow installation of system extensions through the system setting Privacy and Security alongside providing access to the hard disk. The guide is pretty well structured and walks users through the several permissions that need to be granted for the software to function effectively.

The “My Norton” program allows individuals to manage the actual antivirus program and other programs too, like VPN Password Manager, Cloud Backup, etc.

Pricing

The Norton 360 is available in Plus, Standard and Deluxe editions along with other versions that are available only in the U.K., like the Advanced edition and in the U.S. Select + LifeLock edition. The paid version of Norton 360 is priced at $19.99 and $29.99 for the first year. The Norton Antivirus Plus is priced at $19.99 for the first year.
