Netflix Gains Subscribers In India After Deal With Jio Postpaid And Broadband Plans

Mukesh Ambani led Jio has tied-up with the Over The Top (OTT) streaming service provider Netflix in India and is expected to help it gain 4.6 million (46 lakh) paid subscribers in the country by the end of 2020.

In September, Jio started offering a monthly subscription to Netflix with the postpaid plans of Rs 399 and above to its users. Though the offer gives the mobile-only subscription, users can upgrade to other plans as per their will.

Jio’s broadband plans priced at Rs 1499 and above also give access to free Netflix subscription to basic plans.

As per reports, Netflix may also increase its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of $5. Overall, Netflix is expected to have more than 25 million (2.5 crore) subscribers in the Asia Pacific region by the end of this year and India could have contributed up to 9% of Netflix’s global revenue in Q3 of 2020.

Netflix India reported revenue of Rs 923.7 crore and net profit of Rs 8.9 crore in FY20, shows its filing with the registrar of companies first reported by The Economic Times.

All Reliance Jio PostPaid Plus plans offer complimentary subscriptions of Netflix in addition to the other streaming benefits such as Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

Let us see the prices of Jio Postpaid Plus plans:

Rs 399 JioPostPaid Plus plan: In this plan users get 75 GB of data after which they are charged Rs 10 per GB. This plan brings rollover data of up to 200 GB. In this plan users also get unlimited calling and SMS benefits with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps.

Rs 599 JioPostPaid Plus plan: This plan offers 100 GB of data and once the quota is exhausted the customers are charged Rs 10 per GB. Just like Rs 399 plan, this, too, brings a rollover data of up to 200 GB. The plan also offers unlimited calling and SMS benefits with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps. The plan brings one additional family plan SIM card.

Rs 799 JioPostPaid Plus plan: In this plan, Jio offers 150 GB data after which customers will be charged Rs 10 per GB. This plan brings a rollover data of up to 200 GB as well. The plan also offers unlimited calling and SMS benefits with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps. However, this plan brings two additional family plan SIM cards.

Rs 999 JioPostPaid Plus plan: In this plan, Jio offers 200 GB data to its customers after which they are charged Rs 10 for every GB of the internet is used. This, too, plan brings a rollover data but of up to 500 GB. The plan also offers unlimited calling and SMS benefits with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps. The plan brings three additional family plan SIM cards.

Rs 1499 JioPostPaid Plus plan: This plan offers 300 GB data after which the user is charged Rs 10 per GB. This plan brings rollover data of up to 500 GB and users get unlimited calling and SMS benefits with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps.

Jio Fiber broadband plans which starts from Rs 1499 give access to the basic Netflix plans. The plans ship with truly unlimited internet with download and upload speeds capped at up to 300 MB/S.

In addition to this, the plans also offer unlimited voice calling and comes with a free subscription to 12 OTT apps at zero extra costs. Other broadband plans are priced at Rs 2499, Rs 3999, and Rs 8499.
