Ths South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has unveiled the latest mobile chip called Exynos 880 SoC which will have some great features including an integrated 5G modem and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.
The new mobile processor is made keeping in mind the mid-range smartphone and has already been used in Vivo’s Y70s which was launched on Monday and is expected to come to India in August. Samsung is claiming that the Exynos 880’s multi-format codec supports 4k resolution video recording at 30fps.
Let us take a look at some of the features of Samsung Exynos 880 SoC
The all-new Samsung Exynos 880 SoC will come with octa-core 64-bit CPU which will feature ARM Cortex-A76 cores which will be clocked at 2GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 cores which will be clocked at 1.8 GHz.
The processor is manufactured using 8nm FinFET Process.
Coming to the gaming and other graphic requirements, Exynos 880 SoC comes equipped with ARM Mali-G76 MP5 GPU which is claimed to support advanced graphic APIs along with 3D in-game graphics.
Talking about the camera capabilities, Exynos 880 SoC will be compatible with up to 64 MP camera sensor or 20 MP dual camera setup. For the video, the mobile processor’s multi-format codec can support 4K resolution video recording at 30fps and playback with HEVC, H.264, and VP9 codecs.
In addition, this mobile processor also features an integrated 5G modem which can support up to 2.55 GB/s download speed and up to 1.28 GB/s upload speed over 5G sub-6GHz spectrum. The company claims that the download speed of 2.55Gbps can be lifted to 3.55Gpbs with E-UTRA-NR dual-connectivity that combines 5G and LTE capabilities.
Samsung has also stated that the AI capabilities of the Exynos 880 SoC enable “smarter mobile experiences such as intelligent camera and virtual assistant functionality.”
Thie processor also incorporates a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for on-device AI that accelerates response times and improves security.
Samsung claims that “The Exynos 880’s NPU and DSP share a controller and Direct-Memory-Access (DMA), which enables faster and efficient AI processing,”.
Moreover, the Exynos 880 SoC also supports Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, FM radio, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo. Finally, the latest Samsung mobile chip Exynos 880 SoC works well with screen resolutions of up to 2,520 X 1,080 pixels as well as LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 (and eMMC 5.1) storage.
As already mentioned, the Exynos 880 SoC debuted with Vivo Y70s. The phone comes with 5G support and packs a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel main camera.
