WhatsApp Beta Suggests Vacation Mode May Be Released Soon

Facebook owned messaging application WhatsApp has, reportedly, restarted its work on the Vacation Mode – a feature which looks to offer the users an option to mute the archived chats even in they received a new messages from those contacts.

As of now, WhatsApp offers users the ability of archive chats hut as soon as they receive a new message from those contacts a notification pops up for the users. The Vacation Mode would disable this.

The work on this feature was first reported over a year ago, however, WhatsApp seemed to have abandoned it later.

Having said this, in the latest Android beta update, it is suggested that WhatsApp has restarted working on the Vacation Mode.

WhatsApp v2.20.199.8 beta for Android has been released, and the features tracker WABetaInfo has dug into the code to discover the new potential features. The Vacation Mode was spotted once again under development after it was abandoned earlier. However, the users on the latest beta will not be able to see the feature yet. As mentioned, this feature will allow the users to keep their chats in the archive even when a new message arrives from those contacts.

This new version was spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp and comes with a dedicated section for the archived chats which allows choosing different parameters.

As and when the new features go live, the archived chats will be moved to the top of your chats list and tapping on it will bring up the dedicated “Archived Chats” section which, as per the beta version, has a new button called “Notifications”.

Within the notifications, there are now 2 new option which has been added –Notify New Messages and Auto-hide inactive chats.

According to the report, “these options allow users to choose the behaviour of archived chats when new messages arrive. For instance, if you decide to disable ‘Notify New Messages’, then the archived chats continue to stay in the archive even when new messages arrive. The second ‘Auto-hide inactive chats’ option is reportedly an extension of Vacation Mode, and if enabled, a chat older than six months is automatically archived.”

The latest beta version of WhatsApp v2.20.199.8 for Android users also suggests that the Facebook owned messaging application also working on implementing media guidelines when you add interactive annotations on images, videos and GIFs.

These guidelines will aid the users in perfectly aligning the text, emojis and stickers when sending an image in a chat, group or even a status update. Having said this, these guidelines aren’t available yet because this feature is under development.
