Apple, which offers streaming services including Apple Music, One, and Apple TV+, is increasing the subscription cost of these services. Although the price increase is only currently prevalent in the US, rising inflation may cause similar developments in other countries. For the time being, Apple streaming service costs in India are unaffected.
The monthly cost of Apple Music has gone up by $1 for individual users and $2 for family subscriptions. The plans are now $10.99 (around Rs 900) and $16.99, respectively (roughly Rs 1,400). The cost of Apple TV+ plans has increased by $2 and $10, respectively, to $6.99 (about Rs 600) a month or $69 (about Rs 5,700) per year. Last but not least, the Apple One plan costs $16.95 per month (individual), $22.95 per month (family), and $32.95 per month (premier). It combines all of the key Apple subscriptions, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+ under one roof.
The news was also confirmed by an Apple official, who told that increased licencing costs were to blame for the price increase.
The spokesperson added, “The change to Apple Music is due to an increase in licensing costs, and in turn, artists and songwriters will earn more for the streaming of their music. We also continue to add innovative features that make Apple Music the world’s best listening experience.” He further added, “We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with just a few shows and movies. Three years later, Apple TV+ is home to an extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment from the world’s most creative storytellers.”
The costs of Apple Music, TV+, and One are unchanged in India. For an individual, Apple Music costs Rs 99 per month; for a family of up to six, it costs Rs 149; and for students, it costs Rs 59. A subscription to Apple TV+ costs Rs 99 per month and Rs 999 per year. In India, the Apple One individual subscription comes with 50GB of iCloud storage, access to Music, TV+, and Arcade. The monthly charge is Rs 195 for individual subscribers and Rs 365 for family subscribers.
Many other major streaming companies are also reviewing their subscription strategies, at least in the West. This year, the costs of Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and YouTube Premium’s family plan all increased. For users on a tight budget, Netflix has launched a membership option which is supported by ads.
