Apple MacBook Air With M1 Processor Decimates All Older Version, Including Pro, On Geekbench Leaderboards

Apple MacBook Air With M1 Processor Outperforms Older Versions

Highlights:

  • Apple launches MacBook Air with M1 processor
  • M1 processor-powered MacBook Air outperforms older generation MacBooks including the Pro version
  • MacBook Air with M1 processor shows up on Geekbench

Apple has launched its latest MacBook Air which starts at Rs 92,900 and is powered by the all-new M1 processor which was recently spotted on the Geekbench. On Geekbench it was seen outperforming the previous generation MacBooks including the 16-inch MacBook Pro which is powered by Intel Core i9 Processor.

Recently, Apple its Mac mini, MacBook Pro 13-inch, and MacBook Air with its in-house M1 processor, replacing the Intel processors as the company earlier announced it will and now, the MacBook Air with the new M1 chip has made its way to Geekbench where it seemingly outperformed all other CPUs, at least when talking about the single-core scores.

The Geekbench listing comes with the name “MacBook Air 10,1” and has the “Apple Silicon” processor. The laptop has 8GB of RAM and runs on macOS 11.0.1. It posted a single-core score of 1,687 and a multi-core score of 7,433.

The listing also revealed that it has a base frequency of 3.2GHz which is significantly higher when compared to the base clock speed of 2.3GHz of the Intel Core i9-9880H processor found in the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Witnessing the processor leaderboard on Geekbench, the eight-core M1 processor outperforms much higher core count processors in single-score benchmarks.

The top-performing processor in the leaderboard is the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X which consists of 16 cores and it has a single-core score of 1,628 –lesser than Apple’s M1 which sits at 1,687.

Next comes AMD Ryzen 7 5800X which is powered by eight cores whose single-core score was 1,625, again lower than Apple M1 Processor.

Interestingly, MacBook Air with the all new in-house developed M1 processor also comfortably beat the top of the line 16-inch MacBook Pro with the Intel Core i9-9880H processor, both in terms of single-core (1,029) and multi-core (6,012) scores.

The significant lead in performance from Apple M1 process becomes even more surprising when you take the face into consideration that MacBook Air is fanless which means there is no active cooling unlike the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

All the heat which is generated by the processor and other components in the M1-powered MacBook Air is passively cooled. One thing that we would like our readers to note again is that the base of the Apple MacBook Air model with 8GB of RAM outperformed the top-end model of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The same processor also powers the refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro and it does come with a fan and could offer even better performance compared to the already powerful MacBook Air, especially when talked in terms of longer sustained load operations.

It would be no exaggeration to say that Apple has achieved a huge feat with the all new M1 processor and the new laptops which are being able to outperform the previous generation laptops with almost no additional cost.
