At the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 event on 1st October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally introduced 5G in India. PM Modi was present at the inaugural event by prominent businessmen like Mukesh Ambani of Reliance, Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel, and Kumar Mangalam Birla of Vi. The senior executives all discussed specifics of their respective 5G services in the country. Reliance reiterated its inexpensive 5G dream for India, claiming that all districts would have access to its services by the end of 2023. On the other hand, Airtel announced that the initial rollout of its 5G services will take place in eight cities.

Although Vi hasn’t provided clarification, its 5G rollout is anticipated to begin very soon. The rollout of 5G in India would begin from October 1, according to an announcement made at IMC 2022, even though telcos haven’t yet provided exact pricing information. The connectivity option might not be accessible to end users (yet), but it’s possible that telcos are testing it on only few sites.

Reliance Jio 5G

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance, stated at IMC 2022 that Jio will commit provide the “the highest quality and most affordable pricing that anyone else has in the world.” By December 2023, the telecom provider promises to provide 5G to every district. Jio had stated that its 5G service would be available by Diwali, which is on October 23–24.

Jio has additionally stated that its services will launch in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai first.

Bharti Airtel 5G

Sunil Mittal, the chairman of Bharti, stated in his speech that Airtel’s 5G services will roll out in eight Indian cities in the first phase, including Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, and “more.” Although additional information is needed from Airtel, the company has stated that its services has already been rolled out from October 1 itself.

Vi 5G

Vi (formerly Vodafone Idea) has not yet provided details. The company placed a strong emphasis on enhancing its services for all clients at IMC 2022. Vi has also disclosed a collaboration with OnePlus for its 5G services.
